This is one of the few kickstarter stories that ends well. Ouya, the Android gaming console for your TV is actually out and for sale. If you still don’t believe me, here is the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050SZD18
I’m not sure how large the Android gaming market will grow, though other bigger names in the game industry, like Nvidia’s own Shield console, have been throwing some weight behind it. I question that without a big name like Microsoft, Sony or even Nintendo (that hurt to put it last and say “even” like it’s already dead. I love Nintendo… why do they suck so much these days?) getting behind it, how long it will last. Plus, if I’m not mistaken, iOS gaming still beats out Android gaming by a wide margin. I’d like to see more iOS integration with the Apple TV since I like to play games on my big screen. The Ouya certainly has that going for it. Either way it’s only $99, the same price you would drop for a Roku or Apple TV but doesn’t offer the same media integration (though with an open platform like Android that won’t take long to integrate if this device sells well). One of Ouya’s big selling points is how many free games you can play right out of the box, but that is mostly true of any mobile phone platform. I’ll be watching the Ouya with great interest but it’s not something I recommend running out to buy.
