Drobo today announced the third generation of it’s 4-drive unit. This time promising speed improvments, enhanced Apple Time Machine support, usb 3, and 4x faster rebuilds which are all music to my ears. I personally have the Drobo S 5-bay unit that I’ve used for a few years as an archive. Because of the disk speed, even with 5 4tb WD RED drives, it’s not really functional for editing off of. Here’s hoping they release a new 5D with massive speed improvements cause if they do I’ll be upgrading. I’d love to have a Drobo that I could do some serious editing off of. Especially if they use their BeyondRAID technology to allow me to make and delete partitions the way an Avid ISIS does. Not saying that they are doing that… or even that said feature is on their radar. Just saying that if someone from Drobo reads this, you’d get a ton of love from the post community for making that happen.
